The problem

Most small businesses do their books once a year. That’s the whole problem.

Books falling behind

A few months of unreconciled transactions becomes a year without anyone deciding it should.

Deadlines arriving early

HST, payroll, T2 and T1 dates come round faster than the records are ready.

GST/HST uncertainty

Collected tax sits in the operating account. Input tax credits go unclaimed — or unsupported.

Payroll admin

Remittance dates, T4s and ROEs, with very little room for error.

Year-end scramble

Twelve months of loose ends handed to someone in a hurry.

No clear picture

Decisions made from the bank balance instead of a profit and loss.

From messy records to financial clarity: the same twelve months, kept two ways.

Services

One relationship for the whole financial year.

The full process

We set up and, if needed, catch up.

WeSend a written scope, set up secure access, connect bank feeds and bring any overdue records current.

YouApprove the scope and grant read-only access. One checklist, in priority order.

  3. 03

    Manage

Every month, the books are closed.

WeReconcile accounts, categorize transactions, run payroll and prepare GST/HST on schedule.

YouAnswer one batch of questions a month. Keep capturing receipts.

  4. 04

    Report

    You see where you stand.

WeSend your statements with a short written note on what changed and what needs attention.

Books → Tax

Every tax return is only as good as the books under it.

When the same team keeps your books all year and prepares your filings, nothing is reconstructed at the last minute. Each step is built on the one before it.

  1. 01

    Transactions

Every sale, purchase, payout and transfer, pulled in from your bank and apps.

  2. 02

    Reconciliation

Each account matched to its statement. Difference: zero.

  3. 03

    Monthly books

Categorized, reviewed and closed. A P&L and balance sheet you can trust.

  4. 04

    GST/HST & payroll

Returns and remittances prepared from closed months — not estimates.

  5. 05

    Year-end

Adjusting entries on twelve clean months instead of a year of loose ends.

  6. 06

    Corporate & personal tax

T2 and T1 prepared from the same records, by the same team.

Working with EA

What it’s like to work with us.

We’re a new firm, so we won’t quote years or client counts at you. Here’s what we commit to instead.

One list of questions a month — not a drip of emails.

We batch what we need from you, so your attention is asked for once.

Workflow

A written scope before any work starts.

You know what’s included, what isn’t and what we need from you.

Digital

Cloud books, secure document exchange, video calls.

Work with us from anywhere in Canada, on your schedule.

Year-round

We are around in July, not just April.

Monthly books mean questions get answered when they come up.

Reporting

Reports with a note attached.

Every statement comes with a few plain sentences on what changed and what to watch.

Process

Same team for the books and the returns.

No hand-offs between a bookkeeper and a tax preparer who have never spoken.

Pricing

What will it cost? It depends on six things.

We quote a fixed scope, not a guess. Our estimator asks about the six things that drive the work and recommends a service configuration — before you ever talk to us.

Estimate your scope
  1. VOLTransaction volume. The number of transactions each month is the biggest driver of bookkeeping time.
  2. ACCAccounts. Every bank account, credit card, loan and payment platform needs its own reconciliation.
  3. EMPEmployees. Payroll adds pay runs, remittances and year-end slips for each person.
  4. HSTSales tax frequency. Monthly GST/HST filers file twelve returns a year; annual filers file one.
  5. CURHow current the books are. Catch-up work is a separate, one-time project before monthly work begins.
  6. ENTEntity type. Corporations file a T2 and have year-end adjustments; sole proprietors report on their T1.

All FAQs

Who do you work with?

Canadian small businesses, incorporated owner-managers, self-employed professionals and individuals. Most of our clients are in Toronto and Ontario, and because we work digitally we can serve clients anywhere in Canada.

I’m months behind. Where do I start?

Start with a catch-up assessment. Tell us how far behind you are and what software you use, and we’ll give you a scope and an order of work. You don’t need to organize anything before contacting us.

How much do your services cost?

Fees depend on scope: how many transactions and accounts you have, how many employees, your GST/HST frequency and how current your books are. Use the scope estimator on our pricing page, then we’ll confirm a written quote after a short consultation.

Are you a CPA firm?

EA Tax and Bookkeeping Inc. provides bookkeeping, payroll, GST/HST and tax preparation services. We are not a public accounting firm, so we do not issue audit, review or compilation engagement reports. If you need one, we will tell you and prepare your records so that engagement is efficient.

Do you have an office I can visit?

Our registered office is in downtown Toronto. We work digitally by default — video calls, secure document exchange and cloud accounting — so you don’t need to visit an office to work with us.

Let’s look at your books together.

Tell us where things stand. We’ll review it, talk it through with you, and send a written scope before any work begins.
