How it works
No mystery about
what happens next.
Most people delay getting help with their books because they don’t know what it involves. Here is exactly how working with us goes — from the first conversation to your year-end.
The engagement
Five stages
- 01
Discover
We learn how your business runs.
- What we do
- Review your situation, filing history, software and deadlines. Confirm what you need — and what you don’t.
- What you do
- Fill in a short form and join a conversation. No documents needed yet.
- 02
Organize
We set up and, if needed, catch up.
- What we do
- Send a written scope, set up secure access, connect bank feeds and bring any overdue records current.
- What you do
- Approve the scope and grant read-only access. One checklist, in priority order.
- 03
Manage
Every month, the books are closed.
- What we do
- Reconcile accounts, categorize transactions, run payroll and prepare GST/HST on schedule.
- What you do
- Answer one batch of questions a month. Keep capturing receipts.
- 04
Report
You see where you stand.
- What we do
- Send your statements with a short written note on what changed and what needs attention.
- What you do
- Read a one-page summary. Ask anything.
- 05
Support
Year-end, tax and the questions in between.
- What we do
- Prepare year-end and tax returns from the same books, flag deadlines early and help when the CRA writes.
- What you do
- Review and approve filings before they go in.
First 30 days
Your first month, week by week.
Day 1
You accept a written scope. We send one onboarding checklist, in priority order.
Week 1
Secure access set up: read-only bank feeds, accounting software, document portal.
Weeks 2–3
We review your history, fix the chart of accounts and start any catch-up work, nearest deadline first.
Week 4
First month closed or first catch-up period delivered, with our first written note and question list.
Typical sequence. Timing depends on how quickly access and documents come in, and how much catch-up is needed.
Books → Tax
Then, every month, the chain holds.
- 01
Transactions
Every sale, purchase, payout and transfer, pulled in from your bank and apps.
- 02
Reconciliation
Each account matched to its statement. Difference: zero.
- 03
Monthly books
Categorized, reviewed and closed. A P&L and balance sheet you can trust.
- 04
GST/HST & payroll
Returns and remittances prepared from closed months — not estimates.
- 05
Year-end
Adjusting entries on twelve clean months instead of a year of loose ends.
- 06
Corporate & personal tax
T2 and T1 prepared from the same records, by the same team.

- SINs, tax slips and statements are exchanged through a secure portal — never ordinary email or website forms.
- Least access
- We request only the access a task needs, and you can revoke it at any time.
- Your records are yours
- Your accounting file stays in your name. If you leave, everything comes with you.
Questions
Onboarding questions
What happens after I book a consultation?
We review what you shared, meet to understand your situation, then send a written scope and quote. Once you accept, we send an onboarding checklist and set up access.
How do I send you documents securely?
Through a secure client portal, which we set up during onboarding. Please don’t send SINs, tax slips or bank statements through regular email or our website forms.
Can I switch to you from another accountant?
Yes. We’ll ask for your prior returns and access to your accounting file, review where things stand, and take it from there. Switching mid-year is common.
Let’s look at your books together.
