For owners who are also the finance department.

Shops, studios, service businesses, family companies. You wear every hat already. We take the bookkeeping, sales tax, payroll and filings off your list — and keep you informed without burying you in reports.

Sound familiar?

You do the books on Sunday nights, when you remember.

Your accountant only hears from you once a year.

You check the bank balance to decide whether you can afford something.

Challenges

The bookkeeping problems we see most often.

AMixed accounts
Personal and business spending on the same card makes every year-end a sorting exercise and puts deductions at risk.
BSales tax drift
HST collected sits in the operating account and gets spent. The return arrives and the cash isn’t there.
CNo monthly view
Without monthly books, you find out how the year went after it’s over.
DToo many advisors
A bookkeeper, a payroll app, a tax preparer — nobody sees the whole picture.

Tax notes

Tax considerations

General information based on standard CRA rules — not advice for your situation. We’ll confirm what applies to you.

Incorporated or not
Sole proprietors report business income on their personal T1. Corporations file a T2 and the owner reports salary or dividends personally. The bookkeeping is similar; the filings are not.
Vehicle and home office
Both can be legitimate expenses, but the CRA expects records — a mileage log for vehicles and a reasonable basis for home office use.
HST registration
Generally required once taxable sales exceed $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters.
